These word lists can be used with ANY phonics teaching scope and sequence. Simply choose the words that use the phonemes you've taught.
These word lists are organized according to a suggested scope and sequence in the Phonemic Awareness Resources:
Word lists 1-6 correspond to phoneme grouping 1 (s, a, c/k, l, t, b, i, m, n, r, p).
Word lists 7-12 correspond to phoneme grouping 2 (e, f, u, d, o, g, j, v, y).
Word lists 13-21 correspond to phoneme grouping 3 (é, oi, ou, ch, qu, on, z, en/an, ô, eu).
Word lists 22-25 correspond to phoneme grouping 4 (in, un, â, x, h, ê/è).
Word lists 26-38 correspond to phonemes that have different graphemes.
In addition to being organized according to instruction of particular sounds, the word lists are comprised of high frequency words as specified by research-based recommendations. Being an informed consumer of research knowledge, these word lists were created by me to enable my students to maximize their phonological awareness.
Word lists start with words blending 2 phonemes and increase to 3 and 4 phoneme words.
For example, the word ma has 2 phonemes: /m/a/. It is on List 1.
The word sac has 3 phonemes: /s/a/c/. It is on List 2.
Sounds that are pronounced are in bold and sounds that are not pronounced, are not in bold, example: lire
Digraphs (when two letters come together to make one sound - ou, ch, on), are underlined to ease reading of words, example: chat
These words can be used to create activities for Literacy Centers or as assessment.
