Help students learn french pronunciaton

The French Phonemic Chart identifies 36 French phonemes (sounds) and 99 key graphemes (letters and spelling of sounds). Each grapheme is linked to a keyword and a picture. The pictures help students to read and understand the words, as well as learn the relationships between phonemes (sounds) and graphemes (the spelling of sounds). One quickly learns that sounds can be represented by more than one letter. The keywords correspond to those used in the French Phonemic Awareness Resources and are also chosen based on research recommended high frequency words.

  • develop skills around using the charts (pronouncing the sounds, identifying and spelling graphemes, reading keywords)
  • increase recall of letter names, phonemes, keywords and pictures in the charts.
